Jerry Jones explains why he went off on radio hosts

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones went off on some of his longtime radio partners this week, and it does not sound like he regrets it.

Jones makes regular appearances on the “Shan and RJ” show with 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. During his weekly interview on Tuesday, the 82-year-old essentially threatened to fire hosts Shan Shariff and R.J. Choppy after they asked Jones why the Cowboys did not do more to improve during the offseason. You can listen to the audio here .

Later in the day, Dianna Russini of The Athletic asked Jones about the rant. Jones expressed no remorse and said he would have had no problem with the line of questioning from fans or the media, not radio hosts who have a paid partnership with the Cowboys.

“The facts are, if I’m gonna be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying,” Jones said. “I can take it from fans and take it from other people. … We got in there as if accounting for decisions made in the offseason. They might as well go on back to decisions made in 2010.

“There’s no question, I’m sure, that they would have liked to have grilled me like the fans. … The wrong ones were doing the questioning.”

That is a pretty weak stance from Jones. Even if the Cowboys pay the radio station, the question was perfectly fair. Jones should be able to handle some criticism, especially when Dallas is underperforming again and the pressure continues to mount.

Jones was also asked recently about the job status of Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy, and he had a fiery response then as well.
