Jets' DJ Reed calls out NFL officiating in since-deleted social media posts

It wasn't a great night for New York Jets ' starting cornerback DJ Reed on multiple fronts.

Reed was forced to leave the Week 6 primetime home game due to a groin injury in the third quarter, and he was unable to return. Prior to his exit, Reed was flagged for two defensive pass interference penalties while guarding Buffalo Bills' wide receiver Mack Hollins.

The veteran cornerback, who is in a contract year, naturally disagreed with the calls, and revealed his frustration in two since-deleted X posts on Tuesday.

Reposting two posted still shots of one of the penalized plays, Reed included a message.

"So WR’s can flop now & draw a flag, it’s getting out of hand now..." said Reed through his @D7_Reed account.

Reed also replied to a post from former NFL cornerback Richard Sherman, who was criticizing the officiating during the October 14 featured matchup.

Claiming the "WR runs into him as he's looking for the ball," Sherman condemned the penalty call. Reed replied to the post saying "Sherm idk man, idk."

In Reed's defense, the game did devolve into a ref show plagued with penalty calls of all varieties. There were 22 penalties enforced, each team charged with 11 apiece. The violations added up to 204 total yards while negatively affecting pace of play.

"It seemed a little ridiculous. Some of them seemed really bad," said Jets' quarterback Aaron Rodgers when asked about the high number of penalties after the game.

As far as Reed's health status, interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich listed the cornerback as a non-participant ahead of Wednesday's walk-through practice. The Jets (2-4) will visit the Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2) for Sunday Night Football on October 20.
