Fox News Audience Laughs When Trump Jokes About Woman Who Likely Died Because of Georgia Abortion Law

Former President Donald Trump made a Fox News audience howl by joking about Amber Thurman .

Thurman was a 28-year-old Georgia woman who, in 2022, took abortion pills she obtained in North Carolina. She experienced a rare complication when not all of the pregnancy tissue was expelled from her uterus. When she arrived at a Georgia emergency room, she was bleeding and in pain. In such situations, doctors typically perform what’s called dilation and curettage, in which the remaining tissue is removed. However, under Georgia law, the procedure could not be done legally. Hesitant to act, doctors waited 20 hours to perform the procedure, but it was too late. Thurman developed sepsis and died.

A committee in Georgia’s Department of Public Health reviewed Thurman’s case in July and concluded that there was a “good chance” her death could have been prevented had she received dilation and curettage earlier.

On Wednesday, Trump joined The Faulkner Focus , which was broadcasting from Georgia. The event was billed as a town hall centering on women’s issues. Harris Faulkner introduced Trump, who received thunderous applause and cheers from the audience.

“I want to share with you Senators Warnock and Ossoff, [former] Atlanta Mayor [Keisha] Bottoms, and Amber Thurman’s family have come out on a press call,” she said. “And they’re doing what’s called a prebuttal to our town hall right now.”

“Oh, that’s nice,” Trump said sarcastically.

“Yeah,” Faulkner replied.

“You’ll get better ratings, I promise,” the former president added as Faulkner smiled.

The audience laughed and applauded, with some yelling, “Wooooo!”

The aforementioned press call occurred on Tuesday. Thurman’s mother, Shanette Williams , was reportedly emotional throughout.

“When I looked at her and reassured her that she was in the best care, I had no clue, I had no clue that this could have been prevented,” she explained . “And when I found that out, everything changed.”

After the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion, a slew of states enacted abortion restrictions, including Georgia. The state outlawed abortions after the sixth week of pregnancy, when oftentimes women do not know they are pregnant. Patients who have been pregnant for less than six weeks must also wait 24 hours to obtain abortions.
