A Century of the Contemporary, Fill My Heart with Hope, Starship Abundance

MOCA | Downtown Jacksonville

As MOCA celebrates its 100-year anniversary, the Downtown museum is stacked with new exhibitions. MOCA’s A Century of the Contemporary traces the history of the institution, while the late Frank Stella’s large-scale sculpture installation, Jacksonville Stacked Stars , fills Project Atrium. New York-based artist Emil Alzamora’s multidisciplinary exhibit, Starship Abundance , remains on view. And an exhibition of more than 100 works – many of which by less-heralded artists hailing from the Deep South – called Fill My Heart With Hope: Works From The Gordon W. Bailey Collection , fills two floors of the museum. MOCA is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Admission is always free on Saturdays. More info .

Lumen Repertory Theatre presents Cadillac Crew

San Marco Church | San Marco

Jacksonville-based regional theatre company Lumen Repertory presents a new production of playwright Tori Sampson’s critically acclaimed Cadillac Crew . The play, which premiered at Yale Repertory in 2019, follows four 1960s-era civil rights activists – Rachel, Abby, Dee and Sarah – navigating the limits of their place both in society and within the protest movement itself. It’s described “as a story of sisterhood and the complexities of the fight for equality.” Both Friday’s opening night production and Saturday’s begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets and more info .

Cameron Carpenter

St. John’s Cathedral | Downtown Jacksonville

The Beaches Fine Arts Series presents innovative, neoclassical organist Cameron Carpenter at St. John’s Cathedral on Sunday. A Grammy-nominated musician who tours with his own custom-built digital organ, Carpenter is one of the most notable organists performing today. In addition to the concert, works by local artist Maya Elaine will be on view during a post-concert reception. It’s free to attend. Show starts at 4 p.m. More info.
