The Gophers are now 4-3, riding high after two big wins . One against No. 11 USC and then taking down UCLA on the road. With a two-game win streak and a bye week coming up, the question is, could they still have a shot at making the College Football Playoff?

Minnesota Gophers are a long shot to make the College Football Playoff

According to DraftKings , which dropped College Football Playoff odds on 80 teams, the Minnesota Gophers have 200/1 odds to make the CFP. And while the Gophers aren’t exactly leading the pack, they’re sitting in the middle. There is still a small chance that they can make some noise with 5 games remaining.

Lots of work left to do

Realistically, they’d probably have to run the table, to make it happen. But with the CFP expanding to 12 teams this season, there’s still a small chance for the Gophers. It would take victories over No. 22 Illinois and No. 3 Penn State and the season finale vs rival Wisconsin.

Beating those teams would be a huge boost, but they also can’t slip up against teams like (3-3, 0-3) Maryland, (4-2, 1-2) Rutgers. Even though those games look more winnable on paper, they’re definitely not a walk in the park.

It’s awesome watching PJ Fleck push through this season, especially after taking down USC and getting everyone fired back up. But it also makes you wonder what could’ve been if they nailed that last-second field goal against North Carolina or didn’t fall apart in the second half against Iowa. Still, there’s a lot of season left, and they’ve got a chance to bounce back.
