(WCHS) — West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice signed several pieces of legislation on Wednesday including the personal income tax cut, childcare tax credit and more following the conclusion of the special session last week.Senate Bill 2033 was passed by Justice which will see personal income tax cut by 2%, after the governor initially sought after a 5% cut. However, after several lawmakers questioned how the tax cut would impact state revenue.Ultimately, lawmakers compromised, bringing the tax cut from 5% to 2% and SB 20233 was passed by the House of Delegates 90-6 and the governor’s signage will see the tax cuts go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025.The governor also signed House Bill 226 into law which will provide a childcare tax credit to the amount of 50% of one’s person income tax.The bill, which received bipartisan support, was introduced on the first day of the special session and aims to reduce the cost of families for childcare or dependent care.The governor signed off of several other pieces of legislation including<ul><li>SB 2035 which permits additional funds to the expansion and development of broadband access.</li><li>SB 2028 which seeks additional oversight in the research and development of opioid treatment development.</li><li>HB 208 aims to make an agreement with the United States Nuclear Regulatory Commission to establish the Radiation Control Act for greater regulations, programs and procedures around radiation and radioactive materials.</li><li>HB 227 makes amendments which allows public charter schools to apply for funding through the School Building Authority.</li><li>HB 244 places a limited moratorium on new municipal fire fees for fire services.</li></ul>The special session ended with more than 35 bills passing the state legislature which Justice touted as a major accomplishment as his time as governor ends and he seeks a Senate seat in November’s general election.</div></body>
