Legal analyst Allison Gill wrote on Wednesday that Donald Trump faced off against a double-hitter "bench-slap" from Judge Tanya Chutkan and special counsel Jack Smith .

Smith on Wednesday slapped back at Trump's motion to dismiss the election case again. The Trump motion claimed that because the Supreme Court said he had "immunity," there was no reason to proceed with the case.

Gill said that Chutkan won't buy Trump's filings, but that doesn't mean it won't go back to the Supreme Court again after a possible conviction.

The main part of her comments was about Chutkan's 50-page smackdown , which Gill said dives into "why Donald wants the stuff." Trump submitted 14 demands for discovery from the Justice Department for his defense in the election case. Chutkan turned down most of them, explaining to Trump that they were immaterial to his case.

Trump said he wanted the info "to show that he truly believed that there was election fraud - and more specifically - foreign election interference," wrote Gill on The Breakdown. "AND he wants to use the Mueller investigation materials to prove that foreign election interference is real. How’s that for a slap in the face?"

The issue is that Trump has no idea whether the things he's asking for even exist. He's using conspiracy theories and rumors to say that they're real and that he wants them. However, calling the information real doesn't make it so.

The problem, Gill said, is that Trump is "quite literally asserting that his claims of election fraud were based on things no one ever told him or showed him."

The legal system doesn't work that way, she said. Chutkan's "bench-slap" points that fact out to Trump "several times."

Ultimately, Chutkan ruled that overly broad requests for information based only on speculation aren't legitimate.
