When you're the parent of a senior dog, you know your time with them goes by way too fast — and that the older they get, the more likely it is that costly health issues are going to come up, usually when we least expect it. Anyone who follows Mean Girls and Mamma Mia! star Amanda Seyfried on Instagram knows just how much she loves animals, especially her dogs, so it's no surprise that when she appeared on Today With Hoda & Jenna this week, she talked about just how important pet insurance is.
Her pup, Finn, an Australian Shepherd, joined her on the show, and not only did he look adorable on camera, but he also got to witness his mom accidentally eating dog food — yes, for real.
On TikTok, Page Six shared a clip from the episode, showing the moment that Amanda and Finn were presented with a birthday cake to celebrate the Australian Shepherd turning 15 last month. It was perfectly portioned for Finn and so adorable — the sides were covered in blue dog bone decorations and the top of the cake was a rendering of Finn's face in icing. Too cute!
There was some debate about whether this was a cake for humans to eat or if it was made of dog food, and Amanda took it upon herself to give the icing a try.
The second it touched her tongue, it was easy to see from her expression that she found out it was dog food the hard way!
"It's not for us," she announced, shaking her head.
LOL — at least they managed to solve the mystery, right?
More About Amanda & Finn
Amanda is always posting and talking about Finn on social media, and for good reason: she feels that rescuing him gave her "purpose .
While talking to People this week, Amanda said that dogs have a way of giving humans "so much more than you give them," which is so true.
"I don't know what my twenties would've looked like without Finn. I really don't know," she told the outlet. "I don't know how I would've navigated Hollywood. I mean, I stayed out of a lot of trouble, I think, because I had that guy to come home to."
She added that she thought she was just going to foster Finn at first, but quickly, it became obvious that this was her dog.
"I was just like, 'I'm going to keep him safe,' and then he just ended up keeping me safe," she said. "I had struggled with a lot of anxiety and I have OCD, and my twenties were just hard in general, like anybody's twenties are hard, so I think he grounded me in a way that nothing else could have."
Happy belated birthday, Finn! I hope he enjoys his cake more than his mom did!
