Record turnout expected to continue in Georgia

( NewsNation ) — Georgia is setting records as early voting begins in the state and chief operating officer for the Georgia secretary of state said he expects it to continue.

“We’ve had some lines in some places, but they’re like Chick-fil-A lines,” he said. “Just keep moving really fast, the great voter experience out there.”

Sterling said the presidential race is one factor driving turnout and that early voting has been seen across all demographics.

He also told NewsNation the turnout refutes claims that it is hard to vote in Georgia.

“There’s many people out there that’s claimed it’s hard to vote and these laws were passed to subvert the votes and everything,” he said. “It’s just not true. It’s really easy to vote. The average line wait was less than 10 minutes, the average check-in time is 15 seconds.”

Sterling also added that between 60% and 65% of people are expected to vote early in Georgia.

He said the state is also ready for any challenges when it comes to results, as happened during the 2020 election.

“We’re going to be transparent, we’re going to tell the truth, we’re going to count the votes,” he said. “We’re going to follow the law, we’re going to follow the Constitution and we’re going to tell the voters of Georgia who they chose, who the winner is and who the loser is, and at the end of the day, that is our job.”
