Cody Johnson Says His Daughters Like Carrie Underwood & Lainey Wilson More Than Him: “Lowest Man On The Totem Pole”

Cody Johnson might be a rising superstar in the country music industry, but at home, he's still being humbled.

That's because his daughters, Clara Mae and Cori, are fans of country music, but don't always like to listen to what their dad puts out. That's because they have some other favorite artists - including one that CoJo just collaborated with on a song called “I’m Gonna Love You.”

When the 37-year-old singer sat down with Country 103.7 , Johnson revealed that in his household, CoJo isn’t that big of a deal, at least if you were to ask his daughters who their favorite artists are:

"Cody Johnson is like the lowest man on the totem pole right now. At my house, it kind of goes Carrie Underwood, Lainey Wilson, and Megan Maroney. I love Carrie. I love Lainey, and I recently met Megan and she’s one of the nicest girls I ever met, but I’m so sick of their music. It’s not even funny, because they blare it constantly at our house."

    That's hilarious.

And in another part of the interview, Johnson revealed that he’s not exactly encouraging Clara Mae and Cori to follow in his country music making footsteps. Instead, CoJo has chosen to support other dream jobs they have, like being a vet or a pastor:

"I told them don’t do it, and you think it’s easy because we ride around in private jets and buses and stuff with Dad, and we have these expensive trips and all this stuff.

It looks good on paper, but I tell them, ‘You guys weren’t around for the real hard work like looking into a McDonald’s and not being able to go in and buy food and literally starving for country music.'"

Pretty interesting perspective from the Texas native, but it sounds like he just has the best interest of his young daughters in mind. Johnson clearly knows the road to country music stardom as well as anybody, and I'm sure he's grateful to be in a more comfortable position as an artist in the modern day - though that doesn't mean he forgot where he came from nor what he went through. Cody Johnson is set to release the
Deluxe version of his Leather album on November 1st, which will include 13 new songs (including the new collab with Carrie Underwood and the recently released breakup anthem "How Do You Sleep At Night?" ). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3F_4Zcb71BY&pp=ygUVY29keSBob3cgZG8geW91IHNsZWVw
