Alexis has been in jail for the murder of John for some weeks now.

During this time, her daughters have been working tirelessly to win her release, fully aware of her innocence.

Is Brennan Holding All the Cards?

Sam and police divers dove underwater in search of the gun Alexis had dumped, assuming that if it was investigated, the police would learn it was not the weapon used in John's murder.

It would have made a lot more sense for Valentin to sneak into town, fetch the gun, deliver it, and then sneak out again.

Anna accused Brennan of concealing Valentin a few weeks ago, and she asked him to bring Charlotte back to meet her mother; he denied knowledge.

Sonny and Jason were also looking for the gun, despite the fact that they knew the real murder weapon had been melted, along with all of its rounds.

Sonny intended to keep his involvement in the murder a secret, so he approached Carly for assistance in creating an alibi.

However, as the pressure on Alexis increased, Sonny found himself on the edge of confessing in the General Hospital episode.

He even persuaded Carly to leave the nation with Donna to escape being charged with perjury, but she flatly refused the notion.

Is Brennan Out to Impress Carly or Recruit Jason?

The story took an unexpected turn when Anna and the Port Charles Police Department received a box containing the murder weapon.

Brennan may not be very concerned with proving Alexis' or Sonny's innocence, but he does hold Carly in high respect.

It's no secret that he has emotions for her, and he'd probably go to great measures to assist her out of a problem, just like he has in the past.

He once assisted her in navigating a difficult issue with the FBI, and when the Spencer family was looking for Lucky, Carly sought his aid, which he gladly offered.

It's vital to understand that Carly is nervous about dating Brennan or being spotted with him while claiming to be with Sonny.

With the recent finding of the gun, Brennan may be hoping that this would finally allow them to date publicly.
