Liam Payne was reportedly acting erratically before with 9-1-1 audio revealing that the hotel owner believed he was on drugs .

Before making the fall from his third floor hotel room, Liam reportedly smashed his laptop in the hotel lobby before needing to be carried to his room. In a 9-1-1 audio, according to a local Argentinian television broadcast, the owner said: "We have a guest who is on drugs and is destroying the whole room, so we need someone to come."

The star was previously open about his alcohol abuse. In July 2023, he revealed that he was six months sober after spending about 100 days in rehab. "I was in bad shape up until that point," he said in a YouTube video.

Liam continued: "I watching this beautiful symphony, I was having a drink, and I thought, 'You know what, this isn't really serving me at all, I don't really need this right now.' It's the first time I've ever put a drink down and gone to someone else, 'You finish this, I don't need this right now.' And I haven't picked one up since, which has almost been six months, which I'm excited about."

The musician was found dead on Oct. 16 at around 5 p.m. local time. He was visiting the country after attending the concert of his former brand mate, Niall Horan. Authorities are still investigating the incident and it is unknown if his death was a suicide at this time.

Liam and Niall were joined by Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, and Zayn Malik in the band One Direction which was created in 2010 on The X-Factor UK. The band rose to unprecedented success as they released five albums before embarking on a "hiatus" in 2016. All the former band members started their own solo careers, including Liam who debuted with the single Strip That Down. The song was met with mixed reactions by fans and critics.

Ahead of his death, Liam's ex-girlfriend, Maya Henry, was reportedly lawyering up after she claimed he was persistently contacting her. They told the DailyMail : "Maya Henry issued a cease and desist last week to Liam Payne following the emergence of new and concerning information. She has retained attorneys Marco Crawford and Daniel Cerna to represent her. At this time, that is her only comment on the matter."
