The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office Restorative Services Division proudly announced the grand opening of a pioneering Goodwill store on the Elmwood Correctional Campus in Milpitas. This innovative initiative aims to empower incarcerated women by providing them with valuable retail experience and job training.

The Goodwill store serves as a transformative program where participants can gain hands-on training in warehousing, inventory management, and logistics through a comprehensive three-part training series. Not only do they learn essential skills, but they also manage the day-to-day operations of the store, an unprecedented opportunity that fosters personal and professional development.

Holly Child, Director of Restorative Services, expressed the program's significance: “This program uplifts the women in our care, enhancing their wellbeing and restoring their dignity. For many, this represents hope, healing, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.”

One of the program’s key features allows women nearing their release to shop for clothing free of charge, helping them reintegrate into society with new skills and increased confidence. “I came in with nothing, and now I’m able to leave with clothes and confidence,” shared one participant.
