Liam Payne was not only known to be part of one of the biggest boy bands in the world, but also for his tattoos.

The former One Direction singer was found dead as he was vacationing in the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Palermo in Argentina. A local news outlet reported that he fell off the third floor of his hotel and it is unknown if the death was a suicide. The incident is currently under investigation.

Photos from the scene circulated, showing Liam's body against a wooden deck where his identifiable tattoos were shown. The musician had a lot of ink throughout his body.

During an interview with GQ , Liam broke down each of his tattoos. He started the video talking about his "third or fourth" tattoo of a chevron on his forearm. He said that he was scared to speak up to the tattoo artist about the arrows being large and he was drunk when he got it done. Liam called the ink "one of the best mistakes he ever made."

His first tattoo was a cross on each ankle with the meaning being, "screw your legs to your feet to keep you grounded." He did not expect that the tattoo would lead him to having them all over his body. He then got the quote "Everything I wanted but nothing I'll ever need' during a time in his life when he "got to a certain point of success and it was really, really cool but was super lonely." He admitted to losing friends when he became famous.

Liam was looking to get meaningful tattoos, but it got to the point that his ink was mostly artwork. He also got his initials on each thumb, roses, an eagle, a feather, a clock and more tatted on his body. The musician opened up about a graphic on his arm that had skulls and he explained that he got it when he was in the band, despite being a lot of animosity at the time. The tat said "we are the quiet ones," because the group was not allowed to say anything that was actually going on.

Around his upper arm, he got his family coat of arms, which also looked like the Gryffindor logo from Harry Potter, one of Liam's favorite movie franchises. Another meaningful tattoo was his X-Factor number, but in roman numerals.

Liam was one of five members of One Direction alongside Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Harry Styles. Simon Cowell and Nicole Scherzinger formed the band on the popular reality television show in 2010.
