Texas A&M vs Mississippi State Prediction, Game Preview, and Betting Lines

    By Pete Fiutak,

All of a sudden, Texas A&M really does look like a possible College Football Playoff team.

It got by Arkansas, and then handed Missouri its first loss of the season in a 41-10 stomping. LSU and Texas are home games, the road games against South Carolina and Auburn aren’t that bad, and New Mexico State is a layup. But the Aggies can’t take the Bulldogs lightly.

Mississippi State is in the midst of a disastrous season with five straight losses and without a win over an FBS team. However, it wasn’t all that bad in the 41-31 loss to Georgia. It’s as if the team is playing a bit more relaxed - beating Texas A&M, at this point, would make the season.

    Why Texas A&M Will Win

Just start running the ball and keep on grinding away.

Texas A&M might have a fantastic quarterback in Conner Weigman - back after three games off hurt, he hit 82% of his throws in the blowout win over Missouri - but in this he might not be needed as much as normal.

The Aggies average 5.6 yards per carry with 13 scores - highlighted by five rushing scores against Mizzou.

Mississippi State is getting gouged, allowing Arizona State to rumble for 346 yards and over six yards per carry, giving up over six yards per pop against Florida and Texas, and Georgia ran for five yards per pop.

    Why Mississippi State Will Win

All the pressure is on the A&M side. Of course Mississippi State wants and needs a win, but it can just let it rip.

Did the the team find something in Michael Van Buren Jr.?

The one positive in a rebuilding year under a new head coach is how MSU can figure out what’s in place going forward.

With starting quarterback Blake Sharpen out for the year, Van Buren Jr., a freshman, is being thrown to the wolves.

He might need to be more accurate, but he threw for over 300 yards with three scores in the loss to Georgia - MSU made the game more interesting.

The Bulldogs will need several breaks to pull this off, but …

Texas A&M vs Mississippi State: Who Will Win

Texas A&M won’t do anything too crazy. It has just three turnovers on the season and the Mississippi State defense doesn’t force a ton of errors.

Again, it’ll be the Aggie running game that owns this. It’ll hold the ball for almost ten minutes more than the home side as it grinds out a workmanlike win.
