A College Football Program Won Its First Game In Over 350 Days On Wednesday Night

Week 8 of the college football season kicked off on Tuesday with a couple of Conference USA games.

One of them involved New Mexico State getting a big upset over Louisiana Tech. The other was Middle Tennessee State barely beating winless Kennesaw State.

The action continued on Wednesday night as another couple of college football games took place in Conference USA.

Western Kentucky defeated Sam Houston State, and both teams now have identical 5-2 records.

The other one was UTEP facing off against Florida International. UTEP entered the game with six straight losses.

To make things worse, all but one of those losses came by 10 points or more.

Yet, UTEP was able to get a 30-21 victory, giving the Miners the first win of the season. and the first victory in 357 days.

In 2023, UTEP won three games but began the 2024 campaign with six straight losses. The last time UTEP won a game was on October 25, 2023 , in a 37-34 road win.

Scotty Walden, who is in his first year as the UTEP head coach, got his first win with the program after coming over from Austin Peay.

After the game, the UTEP coach and team couldn't contain the excitement.

UTEP held a 17-14 lead at halftime, but Florida International went into the fourth quarter with a 21-20 lead.

UTEP then scored on a 1-yard rushing touchdown by Jevon Jackson, and Buzz Flabiano extended the lead to nine with just over two minutes to play, which resulted in the 30-21 final score.

The Miners next play against Louisiana Tech on Tuesday, October 22, on the road before returning home for two games against Middle Tennessee State and Kennesaw State.
