A New York appellate court has temporarily blocked the city from evicting the Elizabeth Street Garden to replace it with affordable housing.

Thursday had been the deadline for organizers of the statue garden to vacate to make way for 123 units of affordable housing for seniors. The stay will be in effect through the end of the month.

"I really enjoy the park. I think we need to keep our parks," one New Yorker told WOR's Natalie Migliore.

Organizers claim they've sent a proposal to Mayor Adams to preserve the garden and achieve more affordable housing at alternative locations.

"People got to have a place to live I understand that too, but people also got to have a place to sit down and relax also," another New Yorker said.
