CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago Police are investigating the kidnapping and robbery of a couple in Little Village overnight. Later on Thursday, the couple spoke about what happened.

Police said a crew of armed robbers held up a man and woman about to enter a restaurant on 26th Street near Homan. This was shortly before 3 a.m.

Police said the five men or young men stole items from the restaurant before forcing the couple into the robbers’ dark SUV.

The woman, who does not wish to be identified, told CBS News Chicago that robbers stopped her and her husband as they opened the restaurant they own.

"They made me open the cash register, and then one of them started taking the money. Then they got upset because it wasn't enough money, so they started hitting me on my shoulder and my head," she said.

Then, the suspects allegedly drove to several ATMs and coerced the 48-year-old man and 39-year-old woman to withdraw cash before eventually releasing them.

The woman said they were forced to withdraw $1,500 from several ATMs.

    The couple refused medical treatment.

    No one is in custody.
