Mayor Sandy Stimpson has introduced a proposal to sell city property in support of an exciting new development in downtown Mobile.
The project, known as River Walk Plaza, is designed to connect locals and visitors alike to Mobile's waterfront, creating a vibrant space for entertainment, hospitality, and recreation.
The proposed development is set to be located at 10 Water Street, right next to the Mobile Convention Center.

Mayor Stimpson’s vision for the River Walk Plaza project doesn’t stop at just a new development.
The proposal also includes significant upgrades to the surrounding downtown waterfront, such as the renovation of Cooper Riverside Park, enhancements to the Hall of Fame Walk, and future attractions at the National Maritime Museum of the Gulf of Mexico.
These efforts are all aimed at breathing new life into Mobile’s waterfront, transforming it into a bustling hub for both locals and tourists.
In a news release, Mayor Stimpson emphasized the importance of the project, calling it a “transformational public-private partnership.”
The development is expected to offer a variety of activities and amenities right on the banks of the Mobile River, perfectly complementing the ongoing projects in the area.
River Walk Plaza: A Hub for Living, Working, and Entertainment
The River Walk Plaza is being designed as a central hub where people can live, work, and play.
The luxury hotel will anchor the development, but the plan also includes residential condos, office spaces, and plenty of dining and retail options.
This blend of elements will create a space where people can enjoy everything from waterfront dining to boutique shopping, all in one place.
The project team is aiming for a groundbreaking in 2025, with the goal of creating a destination that energizes the downtown waterfront and creates long-term opportunities for the community.
Moving Forward with River Walk Plaza
The first step in making River Walk Plaza a reality is for the Mobile City Council to approve the sale of city property, which will allow the project to move forward.
The first reading of the purchase-sale agreement is scheduled for a City Council meeting, with a vote expected on October 22.
Once approved, the city and developers will begin working together to bring this ambitious vision to life.
