Liam Payne was struggling with legal issues related to his ex-fiancée Maya Henry before his death, according to reports.

The model had accused Liam of contacting her and is believed to have started legal proceedings against him just days before he died . The former One Direction singer was just 31 years old when he tragically died on Wednesday night after falling from the third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Just days before Liam's death, Maya's lawyers issued a cease-and-desist letter to Liam on her behalf. Her legal issued a statement about the action and said: "Maya Henry issued a cease and desist last week to Liam Payne following the emergence of new and concerning information."

The statement, which was shared with The Daily Mail , continued: "She has retained attorneys Marco Crawford and Daniel Cerna to represent her. At this time, that is her only comment on the matter."

A source has now said Liam was worried by the legal trouble. Speaking to People magazine , they said he "was extremely overwhelmed by all of the legal issues".

Earlier this month, Maya took to TikTok and accused Liam of going to extreme lengths to contact her after their breakup. She also accused the singer of "weaponizing" his fanbase against her.

In the video, she claimed: "Ever since we broke up, he messages me, will blow up my phone, not only from his phone number, it's always from different phone numbers too, so I never know where it's gonna come from

"He'll create new iCloud accounts to iMessage me — it's always a damn new iCloud account. Every time I see one pop up on my phone I'm like, 'Here we f------ go again'." Maya also claimed Liam would email her and "blow up my mom's phone."

Following Liam's tragic death, a source has said that Maya is in "shock". They told The Daily Mail : "Right now she is obviously in shock." The model is believed to have found out about Liam's death after a member of her team was contacted by a reporter.

I don’t know much about him other than he was in One Direction and never heard of her. Yesterday, I did hear what she had to say about this legal situation they had and it sounds like he was stalking her and her family and friends. What IS clear is that the media need to stop all these allegations about the legal action she took because from what it looks like, his fans think he could do no wrong and will hold her responsible somehow for his death. They didn’t say yet but I would guess it was probably suicide since he had apparently threatened it several times before, either that or during his tirade he was on that he accidentally fell over the railing.
