AEW Are Considering Booking Match Based On Fake Fan-Made Graphic

Prior to this week’s episode of Dynamite, fans were excited when it was seemingly announced on X that Konosuke Takeshita vs. Máscara Dorada was scheduled to take place. Subsequntly, multiple websites reported this match was happening, and while it was soon noted that it was a fake fan-made graphic , many didn’t realize it until after the show.

And now, while confirming this also caught him out, Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio has revealed that AEW is genuinely considering booking this match, apparently based on fans’ reactions.

“I saw on social media this thing that said Takeshita was wrestling Mascara Dorada on Dynamite tonight. It was a fake graphic, but I did not know it was a fake graphic because it looked just like their graphic, and I’m going like, ‘Oh my god, they’re announcing this match at the last minute.’ So I went to the show, didn’t know any better, and then the show’s over, and it didn’t happen so I figured maybe something happened to Mascara Dorada, I don’t know.

So I actually asked and I go like, ‘What happened to Mascara Dorada?’ And they said, ‘That was a fake graphic, but what a great match. Boy, do we want to put that match on now. So whoever made up this great match or this fake graphic, he spurred an idea in people’s heads, and, in fact, they love the idea of that match. I don’t know if it’s going to happen anytime soon.”

While utilizing Takeshita is no issue as he is signed by AEW, the current wrestler performing as Mascara Dorada is with CMLL, and it’s currently believed he is having visa issues relating to working in the US . Still, such things can usually be sorted with time, effort, and money, so the match is doable, just not immediately.
