(KHQA) — On Friday, October 11, Superintendent Steve Ptacek made a Facebook postto the Jacksonville School District page stating that they stood with teachers, specifically regarding an incident of a parent threatening a teacher.Ptacek said he has received support from others nationwide, and on Wednesday, October 16, parents and teachers showed their support by going to the school board meeting.The issues within the school district began when Jacksonville NAACP's President Pauline Williams made a Facebook post regarding two separate incidents that allegedly happened within the school district.One of the issues was the treatment of a seven-year-old within the district, as well as a teacher allegedly changing the word negro in a book to the n-word, purposely, when reading a book to students.The Jacksonville Education Association addressed the school board, and said according to a survey of their membership, 70% of the district's teachers have been verbally assaulted and cussed out by parents or guardians.The association says these statistics are hurting the field."According to our HR department we now average one candidate per job opening," said Jacksonville Education Association President Amy Pieper."Which means many of our openings have zero candidates applying. This is becoming a nationwide issue and not just a District 117 issue."Superintendent Ptacek says going forward, one parent that was being verbally abusive towards a teacher has been banned from district property and hopes parents can be better in the future.Since the issues addressed in the Jacksonville NAACP's post, President Pauline Williams has taken the post down and says they support the school district and wants to find a solution.</div></body>
