LEWISVILLE (1080 KRLD)- The Lewisville ISD may be forced to close some schools because of a budget shortfall and declining enrollment.

The district faces a $4.5 million deficit and nearly 10,000 fewer students in the next decade and a Lewisville ISD committee is looking into efforts to become more efficient.

The superintendent says the district is already operating with a deficit, and so closing or consolidation is needed. The 20 schools chosen were determined based on a school’s student capacity compared to the number of actual; students enrolled, costs of insuring a building and its operating costs.

No official decision will be made until at least December.

A large chunk of our property taxes goes to the schools. Where is all that money going?

We pay so much in taxes. Time someone reviews the budgets to see where the money is going.
