Liam Payne 's family just released a statement regarding the 31-year-old singer's tragic death that occurred after he fell off a third-story balcony at CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday (October 16).

According to People , the One Direction alum's loved ones expressed heartbreak upon receiving news of the star's passing. In a statement obtained by BBC and PA Media , his family wrote:

"Liam will forever live in our hearts and we'll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."

Payne "died instantly of very serious injuries" which included a fractured skull (per New York Post) . Medical officials on scene reported that they were not able to resuscitate the standout as he was already dead when they arrived.

"Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death. The team could do absolutely nothing. There was no resuscitation because it was confirmed that he had died. The whole body had very serious injuries."

A manager at the hotel cited " erratic" behavior from the star in the moments leading up to his death that prompted a 911 call. Upon searching his hotel room, authorities found the space "trashed."

The "Strip That Down" hitmaker is survived by his 7-year-old son, Bear , older sisters Nicola and Ruth , and parents, Geoff , and Karen Payne .

Investigations surrounding the beloved singer's death are ongoing as the world mourns the loss of beloved icon Liam Payne.
