Preseason Spurs vs. Rockets: 3 Best Bets

    By Jonah Kubicek,

The San Antonio Spurs are slated to close out the preseason on Thursday night against the Houston Rockets. Houston is coming off two straight wins, besting the New Orleans Pelicans and Oklahoma City Thunder. San Antonio is 2-2 in the preseason and recently lost to the Miami Heat.

During last year's regular season, the Spurs went 1-3 against Houston. The Rockets are trying to build on their hot streak that ended last season and have their eyes set on the postseason. For the first time in a while, Houston fans can enter a season with some degree of confidence. However, they don't have Victor Wembanyama on their team.

    Betting Odds

    • Point spread: Spurs +4.5 (-110)/Rockets -4.5 (-110)
    • Money line: Spurs (+154)/Rockets (-192)
    • Over/under: 223

    Best Bets

    Team Bet: Spurs +4.5 (-110)

Both teams have fairly empty injury reports. Devin Vassell and David Duke Jr. remain out for the Spurs, and Jock Landale will get the night off for Houston. That doesn't mean both teams will be giving it all they have, as Wembanyama will likely play between 15-20 minutes, and Houston's best players are in a similar boat. However, with the way Jeremy Sochan, Julian Champagnie, and Keldon Johnson have played this preseason, expect the Spurs to keep it close.

Parlay Bet: Spurs to win, Wembanyama to score 15+ points (+418)

This isn't the 12-leg parlay that goes viral on social media when it hits, but we like this bet for one reason: if Wembanyama has a solid game, chances are the Spurs will win. Any time two legs can go hand-in-hand, we're all in on that action. Wembanyama only scored eight points in his last game, and recently called out NBA stars , so expect him to try and save some face tonight.

Opponent pick: Jalen Green to make 3+ threes (-125)

Green is averaging three makes from deep this preseason on solid 37.5 percent shooting. As the Spurs clog the paint with Wembanyama and Jeremy Sochan, expect Houston to settle into a perimeter-based game. Should that happen, Green will have plenty of chances to take and make shots.
