Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes left it open whether midfielder Florian Wirtz will be available for the Bundesliga match against Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Wirtz was subbed off at half-time in Germany's 1-0 Nations League win over the Netherlands on Monday due to an ankle injury. According to a Leverkusen statement it was a "minor injury."

"We didn't say that he was out, only explained why he was substituted. He didn't train yesterday and received treatment. We'll see how it develops and whether he'll be available or not," Rolfes told broadcasters Sky.

Rolfes also spoke about persistent rumours that Wirtz could leave the Bundesliga champions next summer.

"There has been a lot of speculation, but internally in particular - and I have often emphasized this - the exchange with him and his family is very open and trusting.

"The focus has always been on what is good for his development in connection with Bayer, which is why we are not so concerned about whether he will be sold or not. He is here. We want to work with him, use his qualities and be successful with him," Rolfes said.
