Pretty big compliment when Tyler Childers says he's a fan. Of course at first glance you might not think that Tyler Childers and Jelly Roll have much in common. While they're two of the biggest artists in country music, their sounds are at opposite ends of the country spectrum: Childers leans more towards the folk and traditional end of the genre (I hate the word "Americana," as does Tyler, so I'm not going to use it), while Jelly Roll leans more towards the rock and at times even rap side of country music. But when you strip it back and look at their lyrics, you realize that they're both singing about many of the same things. There's songs about addiction, about recovery, about depression, about redemption. Sure, they sound completely different, but they're singing about the same themes. So maybe it shouldn't be surprising that they're fans of each other. During a recent appearance on the
On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, Jelly spoke about meeting Tyler Childers for the first time at a Clive Davis party, and what it meant to him when Tyler revealed that he was a fan: "Tyler Childers was at my table. He's a country music artist that I love, I'd never met him. And he was like, 'Oh, big fan.' Him just saying that to me is like, 'That's an arrow.' I'm going in the right direction around here, you know what I'm saying? This is alright. I wasn't as lost as I thought I'd be at a big LA party." First of all, Tyler Childers at an LA party seems more out of place than Jelly Roll. But hey, when you get invited to a party thrown by famed record producer Clive Davis, you have to go, right? And it just goes to show what an impact both artists, whose music is at opposite ends of the country spectrum, have both had on the genre - and apparently, on each other. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8Uw-kfp3ZE

I love Tyler’s music. Jelly doesn’t do it for me for whatever reason but he seems like a good guy and I’m glad he has turned his life around.
