Welcome to the latest edition of our weekly AEW Dynamite hits and misses series.

Last night’s Dynamite emanated from San Jose’s SAP Center. Featured superstars included Jon Moxley, Swerve Strickland, Mariah May, and Mercedes Mone.

Here’s what went down on the October 16 episode of Wednesday Night Dynamite.

Hit – Adam Cole is back on AEW Dynamite

Adam Cole’s promo last night on AEW Dynamite established him as a full-blown babyface. Cole’s delivery was spot on. He’s always been comfortable on the mic. That said, it took a lot of time before we got to the MJF part. Max looked pure evil sitting on the chair. Let’s see how AEW builds this feud between these two former tag team partners.

Miss – Chris Jericho gets another title shot

You can’t take Jericho away from the title picture, brother. After losing to Mark Briscoe at WrestleDream, The Learning Tree gets another title shot in ladder wars next week. Seriously, this feud needs to end. The tag team match between FTR and Big Bill-Bryan Keith was okay. But hey, it was for a good cause. The Outrunners running to the ring just to shake hands with FTR was weird.

Hit – Mercedes Mone vs. Queen Aminata on AEW Dynamite

Aminata actually looked great against Mercedes. Credit to The CEO for making her opponent look good though. Mercedes retaining her TBS Championship was always going to be the outcome. Let’s see what’s next in store for the champion.

    Miss – The Paradigm Shift

Moxley and his group (they are called The Paradigm Shift, I suppose) attacked Cassidy, Rocky Romero and O’Reilly during the trios tag team match against The Elite. Mox refusing to explain his intentions is starting to make me lose interest in the group. That said, they teased a face turn for The Elite. We are getting Invasion 2.0, folks!

Hit – Shelton Benjamin vs. Lio Rush

Shelton Benjamin hasn’t missed a step. For those unfamiliar with his game, this match was just a glimpse of what the Gold Standard of Wrestling can do between the ropes. Rush resigning with AEW was a good decision because we’ll get more great matches unless he decides to retire, again. Also, we’re getting Shelton Benjamin versus Swerve Strickland in two weeks.

    Miss – Why Kyle why?

First, they paired Archer with Callis without an explanation. Now, Brian Cage is the latest addition to The Don Callis Family. I guess Callis has a lot of pull backstage because I need an explanation. Takeshita looked badass in that black fit. Kyle Fletcher was in the ring to explain why he turned on Ospreay at WrestleDream. He didn’t because fans didn’t let him. Really, that’s your excuse Callis?

Hit – AEW Dynamite Main Event

A solid match to cap off the night. Christian Cage and Jay White had a methodical match with some great-looking offense. Page’s interference means he isn’t done with White. Also, White isn’t done with Cage because of his tainted win, I suppose.
