English Bulldog Puppy's Drama-Filled Tantrum Over Her Bed Being Washed Deserves an Oscar

Having a puppy is 90% taking pictures of them being the cutest, approximately 5% cleaning up their various messes, 2% training, and 3% dealing with their tantrums. There is no way to know what will set them off, but something certainly will. Often.

On October 12th, one English Bulldog puppy experienced the ultimate betrayal and, as a result, threw the ultimate tantrum. Her bed was being washed. Her crate was bare. She has never been more upset:

Padmé the English Bulldog is the very definition of a girl puppy. If you Google girl puppy behavior, a picture of her will probably come up!

Padmé went home to her forever home in early December, and ever since, she's been a handful and a half. While she's definitely adorable and, all things considered, a pretty good dog, she still has her moments. She spends a lot of time in Air Jail (holding the dog up in the air for a few seconds) for various crimes, but she's smart!

On this day, Padmé had gotten a little too excited about something while she was in her crate. Puppies tend to let go when they get excited, and Padmé's bed ended up absorbing the impact... so it needed to be washed. Even though she was at fault, it didn't matter. Mom couldn't have found another way to get the mess out without messing up Padmé's day?!

Why Do Dogs Get Upset When You Wash Their Beds?

As humans, we know that dog beds need to be washed often, just like human bedding does. After a while, it's just gross. Plus, with a puppy, you can almost always bet money that they've had an accident on it, even if it's just a small one. It smells!

While we may not like the smell very much, dogs do. That smell tells them, and others, that this is their bed. Their territory. When we wash it, we take away all of their hard work stinking it up. It would be like writing the best essay of your life on a whiteboard and the mean girl sitting behind you swiping her finger down the middle.

When you put your dog's bed back in its spot after you've laundered it, you might notice that they:

    1. Dig frantically in it
    2. Bark at it
    3. Have a hard time getting comfortable
    4. Roll around upside down on their backs

Don't be concerned: they're simply trying to re-stink it up. They're wondering where their scent went, and they're putting it back. Resistance is futile: just wash it regularly and let them do their thing. Not that Padmé would let anyone keep her from doing what she wants!
