The Minnesota Vikings have plenty of traditions at U.S. Bank Stadium. They are part of what makes the Vikings’ gameday experience so special. From the falling snow to the sounding of the Gjallarhorn, everything about the pregame routine at The Bank is well thought out.

Jamie Erdahl to sound the Gjallarhorn for the Minnesota Vikings

And on Thursday morning, head coach Kevin O’Connell surprised “one of us” Jamie Erdahl with an opportunity to be part of it all. The 35-year-old Erdahl was born in Bloomington and now works for both NFL Network and and CBS.

On this morning’s edition of Good Morning Football , the Vikings head coach joined the show with a special surprise for the Minnesota native: an offer to sound the gjallarhorn right before kickoff, an honor that has become similar to a “first pitch” in baseball.

“Jamie obviously you hold a special place within this building as a Minnesotan and a former resident of the Twin Cities. We figured what better time to bring you back home than when we play the Indianapolis Colts. I know you know a lot about our culture, our great environment at U.S. Bank Stadium, but how about coming out to sound our Gjallarhorn.”

Erdahl was brought to tears by the gesture, replying “That’s amazing coach! Oh my gosh, thank you! Thank you, I can’t wait! When is the game?!” It was truly a heartfelt moment and Erdahl was obviously taken aback by KOC’s offer.

    When will this happen?

Following a home tilt against the Lions, and a quick turnaround in Los Angeles vs the Rams, the Minnesota Vikings return home in Week 9 (November 3rd) to play the Colts. Erdahl will be in attendance and will sound the gjallarhorn high above the playing surface just before kickoff.

She promised to share a good bottle of wine with O’Connell and provide any insights that might help him navigate the Twin Cities, and the state of Minnesota. O’Connell has now been a resident for three years, but it’s the thought that counts.

While Erdahl is no longer a resident of the state, she has always poured out her love for Minnesota and continues to prove herself as a genuinely good person .
