Local authorities have confirmed that Liam Payne "jumped from the balcony" of his Argentinian hotel room before falling to his death , according to reports.

In a police statement to The Associated Press , authorities confirmed that he "had jumped from the balcony of his room" as opposed to accidentally falling or being pushed off. The 31-year-old singer met his tragic end during a Buenos Aires getaway with his girlfriend Kate Cassidy where they attended his former band mate Niall Horan's concert .

According to a preliminary autopsy report , the former One Direction band member passed away from "multiple traumas" that caused both "internal and external bleeding" after the 40-foot fall. In the same statement to AP, local authorities added that they rushed to the hotel in response to an emergency call that came in just after 5 p.m. local time that warned of an "aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs or alcohol."

Ahead of Liam's heartbreaking death, Hotel Casa Sur’s head of reception made two calls, urging to the 911 operator that they needed immediate help. In the first frantic call, the employee said: "We have a guest who’s off his head on drugs and is destroying everything in his room . We need someone to come."

After the line went dead, the same employee, who later identified Esteban, called back and urged: "I don’t know if the guest’s life is in danger." He added: "The room has a balcony and we are afraid he might do something. Just send an ambulance, only an ambulance.”

But despite the hotel staffs best efforts to take action, police were unable to arrive at the scene in time to save Liam's life. After his death, investigators searched Liam's hotel room where they discovered paraphernalia that is being tested for drugs and his room in disarray. As police searched the room, they discovered a shattered television screen, white powder residue, a whiskey bottle, a nearly empty glass of champagne, a piece of scrunched-up burnt aluminum foil, and a burnt soda can.

The investigation into the singer's death is still ongoing, and there will be toxicology and anatomical-pathological assessments of his blood and urine tests to come that will examine possible drug use. There are also plans to review Liam's medical records for insights into his psychiatric health.

Alberto Crescenti, the head of Buenos Aires emergency services, has confirmed that Liam's death was instant due to multiple injuries sustained, including a skull fracture. Crescenti explained: "Our role was to head there quickly, give medical attention, and try to resuscitate him, but his injuries were incompatible with life. Based on what the team saw, there was apparently a cranial fracture and extremely serious injuries that led to his immediate death."
