Liam Payne's Girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, Explains Why She Left Him Behind in Argentina Before His Death

Liam Payne 's girlfriend Kate Cassidy was no longer in Argentina when the One Direction singer unexpectedly died, and a recent social media video explains why she left.

Cassidy, who had been dating Payne for around two years, shared a video on TikTok earlier in the week to document her travels from South America back to her home in Miami, Fla.

Just a few days later, Payne was found dead after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. He was 31.

In Cassidy's TikTok post, shared Monday, Oct. 14, the 25-year-old revealed she was "so ready to leave" South America, after being there for two weeks, despite only initially planning to visit for five days.

"Honestly, love South America but I hate staying in one place for too long," she explained in a voiceover. "And we were supposed to be there for, like, five days, turned into two weeks, and I was just like, 'I need to go home.'"

The video showed snippets of Cassidy's plane ride back to the U.S., including a shot of her boarding pass, which listed her seat assignment as "1D," a coincidental nod to her boyfriend's former music group.

"I feel like this happens every single time I fly," Cassidy said.

At another point in the video, Cassidy mentioned Payne by name, revealing that she had to purchase a neck pillow for her flight home to replace her Squishmallow, which she left with the "Teardrops" artist .

After landing in Florida, Cassidy called it "so relieving" to be home, and in her caption, she wrote, "sooo happpiii to b back in sunshine state."

It was only days later that Payne tragically died after reportedly jumping from the balcony at the hotel, leaving him with fatal injuries.

His preliminary cause of death was determined as internal and external hemorrhaging as a result of his injuries, which also included a shattered skull.

Toxicology tests are still pending.
