Eleanor Batt, 91, of Sun City, AZ, died Sunday, October 13, 2024, peacefully and aware that she was surrounded by her loving family. Eleanor graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis, IN, later becoming a housewife and mother. She was also employed by Stephen Decatur Elementary School, working in the cafeteria for many years. After her husband Robert (“Bobby,” as she fondly called him) retired, the two of them lived in Sun City, AZ, until Robert predeceased her in 2019.

During their younger years, Eleanor enjoyed square dancing with the Laughing Squares in Indianapolis and then, in later years, golfing in Sun City. She spent over ten years volunteering at the Indianapolis Children’s Museum helping with the exhibits and other needed tasks. She was a talented artist who specialized in textile arts. She was always working on something, keeping some of her creations for home-decorating, giving many as gifts, and selling others at craft fairs. She passed her love of art down to her children, who are all accomplished photographers and fine artists.

Eleanor was also an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, and miniature golf. She enjoyed traveling and went on many cruises with her husband and family during her retirement years. She was an active member of many clubs in Sun City, especially the sewing club and the Spinners and Weavers Guild. She loved everything cat-related, including her own cats, Lady, Hershey, Misty, and Snowy. And as many fondly remember, she was a walker. She did not have long legs, but she could easily lap most people.

She is survived by her children, Tamara Smith (Kenneth Smith), Loretta Hostettler (Randy Hostettler), Robert Andrew Batt (Shelly Batt), and Angela Walthour (Jack Walthour), and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Monday, Oct 21, 11 AM to 1 PM at the Regency Mortuary, 9850 W. Thunderbird Rd., Sun City, AZ 85351, with the funeral service immediately following. No graveside service is planned. In lieu of flowers, donations in Eleanor’s name can be sent to one of her favorite charities for Parkinson’s Disease, the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
