Here are this week's rankings.<h2>1. Bishop Manogue (5-3, 3-0)</h2>Last week: No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: vs. Reno, Friday 7 p.m.In short: The Miners were battle-tested against Reed two weeks ago in a game-of-the-year candidate that came down to the final minute after the Raiders rallied from down 21. After a five-game streak of scoring 28 points or fewer, Manogue dropped 40-plus for a second straight week. The Miners took early-season losses to three teams in California that are ranked in the top 40 statewide. The last time the Miners lost to a Northern Nevada team was the 2021 regional title game against McQueen. Transfer QB Brandon Mann has thrown for more than 1,500 yards with 18 touchdown passes and five interceptions. Against Reed, Pele Masina rushed for two touchdowns, including the game-winner with less than 4 minutes to play. He finished with 189 rushing yards, so the offense is rolling entering this week's game with Reno.<h2>2. Reed (5-2, 2-1)</h2>Previous ranking: 2Last week: No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: at Douglas, Friday 7 p.m.In short:Already good last season, Reed is even better this year after returning starting quarterback Nishaan Bajwa and top rusher Bronwyn Rios. Rios is averaging 134 rushing yards per game while Bajwa has accounted for 16 touchdowns. The Raiders have outscored its opponents by a combined 145 points. Reed nearly became the first Northern Nevada team to beat Bishop Manogue since 2021 and will carry confidence in a potential rematch. The Raiders found themselves in an early hole, falling behind by 21 points, before digging out in impressive fashion to have a chance to win late. That comeback included a pair of rushing touchdowns from Bajwa, his first two scores with his legs this season.<h2>3. Truckee (8-0, 5-0)</h2>Previous ranking: 4Last week: Beat Elko, 31-8This week: at Sparks, Friday 7 p.m.In short:Truckee authored a statement game by whipping the Northern 3A's other undefeated team, Elko, last week, winning by 23. The Wolverines made the long bus ride down I-80 and came back with their 30th straight win despite playing without running back Joe Birnbaum. After winning its first six games by an average of nearly 30 points, the Indians were stymied by Truckee's defense, with Elko's eight points its lowest since October 2023 (also a loss to Truckee). The back-to-back state champions flexed their muscle, even scoring on defense when Luke Lauter returned a fumble for six. Senior Paul Ronzone racked up two sacks with Ethan Stendell recording Truckee's third. Truckee ran for more than 300 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore Ivan Esparza had 144 yards and two scores. Quarterback Jace Estabrook ran for 100 yards and a touchdown.<h2>4. Spanish Springs (5-3, 2-1)</h2>Previous ranking: 3Last week: No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: vs. McQueen, Friday 7 p.m.In short:Spanish Springs has put together impressive back-to-back efforts against Reno and Douglas and hosts McQueen this week. Quarterback Tyson McNeil has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for1,633 yards, 16 touchdowns and one interception in his first season as a starter.Brady Hummel is his top pass-catcher with 44 receptions for 491 yards and seven touchdowns. Tight end Hunter Selby has added five receiving touchdowns. Spanish Springs has one of the region's top offenses, scoring at least 31 points in four of its last five games, the exception being a 28-7 loss to Bishop Manogue.<h2>5. Douglas (6-2, 2-1)</h2>Previous ranking: 5Last week:No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: vs. Reed, Friday 7 p.m.In short:Douglas' jump to the 5A-II has gone smoothly with the Tigers 2-1 in league with its only loss coming by three points to Spanish Springs, although the Tigers will be tested the next two weeks with games against the top-two teams in these rankings with Reed this week and Bishop Manogue the week after. QuarterbackJackson Ovard has completed 67.5 percent of his passes for 1,256 yards and 11 touchdowns with the running back duo of Zachary Jackson (964 yards, 14 TDs) and Evan Youmans (508 yards, four TDs) providing a strong one-two punch on the ground. We'll see exactly how good Douglas is in the next two weeks.<h2>6. Galena (5-2, 3-0)</h2>Previous ranking: 7Last week:No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: vs. Hug, Friday 7 p.m.In short:Galena is our top Northern 5A-III team and should have any issues closing the regular season with games against Hug and Wooster the next two weeks. The Grizzlies' defense has limited its league opponents (Damonte Ranch, North Valleys and Carson) to just 33 points. There difference between the 5A-II and 5A-III is pretty noticeable, though, as Galena lost to Reno, 32-7, with the Huskies winless in league play in the 5A-II. The Grizzlies didn't have quarterbackColson Kermode for that game, and he's a real difference-maker who has thrown for860 yards and nine touchdowns while rushing for 242 more and five scores on the ground.<h2>7. Elko (6-1, 4-1)</h2>Previous ranking: 7Last week: Lost to Truckee, 31-8This week: at Churchill County, Friday 7 p.m.In short: Elko entered last Friday with hopes of taking down Truckee for the first time since 2022, the Wolverines' last loss. The Indians' offense amassed 306 yards but scored only eight points, their lowest output since early last season. Quarterback Ethan Kraintz completed 12-of-23 pass attempts for 118 yards and was intercepted twice. Jake Carsrud rushed for 129 of Elko's 188 yards and scored the team's only touchdown. Senior Armando Herrera racked up nine solo tackles plus an interception he returned for 37 yards. Elko travels to a down Churchill County team as it looks to get back on track. It's safe to say Elko would love another crack at Truckee in the postseason.<h2>8. Reno (2-4, 0-3)</h2>Previous ranking: 6Last week: No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: at Bishop Manogue, Friday 7 p.m.In short: The Huskies started off hot with a big win over the South's Palo Verde but quickly faltered during league play. Reno has struggled to string points together, failing to eclipse 20 in games against Douglas, Reed and Spanish Springs. Reno and McQueen are fighting to stay out of the bottom spot in the 5A-II in league play to avoid dropping divisions to the 5A-III. The Huskies are a major underdog this week when they travel to Bishop Manogue before that big contest with McQueen to end the regular season.<h2>9. McQueen (3-5, 0-3)</h2>Previous ranking: 8Last week: No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: at Spanish Springs, Friday 7 p.m.In short:The Lancers are one of two winless teams in 5A-II player along with Reno with those two playing a relegation game next week. McQueen has shown promise by leading Bishop Manogue in the second half earlier this month, but the Lacers struggled to finish the game. Then, against Douglas, they allowed more than 500 yards and 49 points after being outscored, 35-7, in the second half. Playing four full quarters has been McQueen's biggest obstacle this season. The Lancers hit the road to play Spanish Springs this week.<h2>10. Carson (5-3, 2-1)</h2>Previous ranking: 10Last week: No game (WCSD Fall Break)This week: at North Valleys, Friday 7 p.m.In short:Carson looks to clinch an above-.500 record on the season with this week's game at North Valleys. The Senators have had success against the 5A-III's lower-level schools, blanking Hug (37-0) and Wooster (40-0) while struggling against the region's better competition, including a 47-13 loss to rival Douglas and 35-12 loss to Galena. Carson did beat McQueen, 31-28, the program's biggest win in a while. The Senators should have the upper hand against North Valleys this week before the regular-season finale against Damonte Ranch, which will likely be for the No. 2 seed in the playoffs.Nikki Pica is a reporter for Nevada Sports Net.
