Carson Beck Projected to Solve Major Quarterback Problem for AFC West Contender

As one of the most prolific passers in college football, Georgia quarterback Carson Beck is garnering some notable NFL draft discourse during his final collegiate season.

The former four-star recruit finished third in the country among all passers with 3,941 yards, 24 touchdowns and six interceptions last season while leading Georgia to a 13-1 record in his first year as a starter. The only two quarterbacks ahead of Beck in passing yards were drafted in the first round of this year's draft, including Michael Penix Jr. and Bo Nix.

Beck is on pace to break his career marks in 2024. Through six games, he is completing 67.9% of his passes for 1,818 yards with 15 touchdowns to five interceptions for the No. 5 Bulldogs (5-1).

According to CBS Sports' latest 2025 NFL mock draft , Beck is the No. 4 quarterback prospect behind Miami's Cam Ward, Colorado's Shedeur Sanders and Texas' Quinn Ewers. He is projected to solve a volatile quarterback problem for an AFC West franchise.

Beck (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) is projected to land to the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 11 overall pick next spring. He could be the solving piece to a quarterback room that has rotated between veterans Gardner Minshew II and Aiden O'Connell. Both signed two-year deals in the offseason.

The Raiders (2-4) recently traded star wide receiver DeVonte Adams to the New York Jets despite being one game back of second place in the division. Las Vegas currently has the 27th ranked offense in the league through six weeks. The Raiders haven't had a winning season since 2021.

"A competition between Gardner Minshew and Aidan O'Connell gives way to the selection of Carson Beck," Josh Edwards wrote. "Beck's potential receiving core took a hit this week with the trade of veteran Davante Adams."

If the projection holds true, Beck would reunite with former Georgia tight end Brock Bowers. The 2024 No. 13 overall pick leads all tight ends in receptions (37) and yards (384) as a rookie.

There is also potential for Beck to rise up to the top of the draft with a strong finish to the season. The Bulldogs will face No. 1 Texas this week with games against No. 18 Ole Miss and No. 11 Tennessee remaining on the regular season slate. The high level of competition Beck will face could help him prove his worth to NFL teams ahead of the draft process.
