According to a press release from Mississippi Department of Corrections, in order for inmates to be eligible to participate in Family Day, they must have good behavior. This means they should have zero gang affiliations, no rule violations, and must be of minimum custody. Eligible inmates also should be in school programs or have a job.

Each inmate who is eligible to participate in Family Day may invite five family members who are on their visitation list.

Lee Ann McClure, project coordinator with Magcor, spoke of how much she loves being a part of Family Day. She stated, "This was my third time to be on the Family Day planning committee and Family Day is one of my favorite days of the year. I love that the inmates, staff, and all their families spend the day together having a great time. There is nothing like seeing the smiles on everyone’s faces all day long. ”
