Russia Recovers Imports Despite Sanctions That Hinder Payments, Bloomberg writes. The agency notes that Russian imports in the third quarter recovered to the level of the previous year, helped by a rise in domestic demand despite the fact that international sanctions are creating difficulties for payments. The value of imported goods in this period reached $76 billion after an annual decline in the previous three quarters, the Central Bank of Russia said in its balance of payments report. Imports rose by about 9% compared to the previous quarter. The recovery was driven by an expansion of domestic demand, combined with a stronger ruble during this period, as well as an increase in car imports, the central bank said. The Russian currency has strengthened by 5% against the dollar compared to the previous year and by 2% compared to the second quarter of 2024.“There was an improvement in imports to Russia from various regions of the world,” the agency quotes the Central Bank of the Russian Federation as saying.
