Billy Ray Cyrus’ Ex-Wife Firerose Admits She ‘Wasn’t Sure’ She’d ‘Survive’ Divorce During Health Scare

Firerose admitted that she didn’t know if she’d “survive” her divorce from ex-husband Billy Ray Cyrus as she faced unforeseen health scares.

“There’s been a few times I wasn’t sure that I would survive,” Firerose, 34, told Us Weekly in a story published on Thursday, October 17.

Billy, 63, filed for annulment in June after seven months of marriage to Firerose, citing “inappropriate marital conduct.” Their divorce was finalized in August, In Touch confirmed at the time. The Australia native was going through health complications while going through the separation and got a double preventative mastectomy in August. Firerose underwent the procedure to help prevent cancer while holding the BRCA1 gene.

On September 1, Firerose shared a selfie via Instagram while lying in a hospital bed, revealing an IV attached to her arm.

“With God on our side we’re stronger than we can even imagine,” the Hannah Montana alum captioned the post. “Thank you so very much for all the prayers. I deeply appreciate the outpouring of love & support.”

Ten days later, Firerose revealed via Instagram that she returned home after spending five days in the hospital following the discovery of a “life-threatening diagnosis.”

“I’m so profoundly grateful to be alive it’s hard to even explain. I’ll share more details when I’m ready but the fantastic news is God got me to the ER just in time & I’m going to be absolutely OK. Beyond thankful for all the amazing doctors & nurses who took such great care of me & my beautiful soul family for every prayer, visit, text & call,” she captioned the September 11 post. “The Lord reminded me I have much purpose still on earth, making music to help others & glorify Him. Now my testimony’s even stronger, with this radical grace & my life being saved once again. What a wonderful blessing each day forward is from here.”

During her interview with Us Weekly, she revealed that she developed pulmonary embolisms in both of her lungs, leading to her five-day hospital stay. Firerose also told the outlet that ending her marriage and fighting for her health at the same time was a “very humbling experience” and it put “everything into perspective.”

As for Firerose’s split from Billy, it was less than amicable. After the “Achy Breaky Heart” artist legally filed to end their marriage, both he and Firerose publicly accused each other of rash behavior. While Firerose accused Billy of abuse and manipulation, he claimed that she cheated on him during their marriage.

In a filing obtained by In Touch, Billy deemed Firerose’s abuse allegations against him “mind-boggling” and made a counterclaim against his former wife. Despite their back-and-forth allegations, their marriage was officially dissolved on August 5.
