Cameron Diaz Explains Her Decade-Long Break From Acting, Says It Was 'Something I Had to Do'

Cameron Diaz opened up about taking a lengthy break from acting.

The 52-year-old star hasn’t appeared on the big screen since 2014. Eleven years later, her new movie Back in Action will arrive in January.

During a recent appearance, Cameron explained why she took more than a decade away from the industry, saying that it was “something [she] had to do.”

Speaking at the Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, Cameron said that taking a break “felt like something I had to do to reclaim my own life. And I just really didn’t care about anything else.”

“Nobody’s opinion, nobody’s success, no one’s offer, no one’s anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have,” she continued. “It really comes to: What are you passionate about? For me, it was to build my family.”
