Weekend shuttles to replace Metro trains between Monrovia, Azusa

Shuttle buses will replace rail service in Monrovia, Duarte and Azusa for six weekends starting Friday night, as Metro crews extend the A Line toward Pomona.

Stations for the Metro A, formerly known as the Gold Line will switch from train to bus service with these temporary shuttle stops:

Monrovia, Primrose Avenue and Pomona Avenue;

Duarte/City of Hope, Duarte Road and Hope Drive;

Irwindale, Avenida Padilla and Irwindale Road;

Azusa Downtown, Bay 1; and

APU/Citrus College, Citrus Avenue at the APU Station.

During the closures, regular rail service will continue between Monrovia and Long Beach, according to Metro.

All scheduled rail closures are for 9 p.m. Fridays through the end of service on Sundays Oct. 18-20, Oct. 25-27, Nov. 1-3, Nov. 8-10, Nov. 15-17 and Dec. 6-8.

“During the closure, we’ll be testing critical operating systems that run between the existing A Line and the future A Line that will boast new stations in Glendora, San Dimas, La Verne and Pomona — where riders can easily transfer between Metro and Metrolink’s San Bernardino Line,” according to a Metro statement.

The temporary shuttle bus is Line 851 and will run every 10 to 20 minutes.

Temporary signage and Metro ambassadors will help riders find the shuttle buses, officials said.

Funding for the A Line extension to Pomona is largely from the Measure M sales tax approved by LA County voters in 2016, with the extension expected to start operating next year.
