Chargers Active In WR Trade Talks

The NFL trade deadline is now less than three weeks away and it has become very apparent that the Los Angeles Chargers need to upgrade at a few specific positions, one is wide receiver. Their leading receiver is rookie Ladd McConkey. His 219 yards are only good for the 67th-best in the league. The Chargers top receiver by yards per route run is the inline blocking tight end Will Disly.

The wide receiver market has already been buzzing with trades. Davante Adams was reunited with Aaron Rodgers with his trade from the Las Vegas Raiders to the New York Jets. The Buffalo Bills addressed their similar concerns by trading with the Cleveland Browns for Amari Cooper.

Chargers In Trade Talks With New York Jets

A name that has surfaced in the rumor mill for the Chargers is a familiar face, Mike Williams. Williams had been with the team for his entire career before getting cut earlier this offseason, once the Jim Harbaugh regime was in place.

As of Thursday morning, reporting by Diana Russini of The Athletic says that the Chargers have been in talks about requiring Williams. She also reported that the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints have reached out to the Jets.

Williams hasn’t looked like the Mike Williams of old coming off an ACL tear. He currently has 17 targets, the fifth most on the team. He has 10 catches for 145 yards and no touchdowns.

A trade out of New York seems imminent. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers openly criticized Williams saying he ran the wrong route that resulted in a game-sealing interception. Williams was listed as a ‘did not participate’ on Wednesday’s injury report the reason was listed as ‘personal’
