After playing two close games against Rawlins County and Oberlin-Decatur to open the season, the Hornets cruised to lopsided wins in their next four games. Dighton is coming off a 54-6 victory over Wheatland-Grinnell. George von Leonrod rushed for 120 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Hodgeman County has shut out five of its six opponents. South Gray was the only team to score on the Longhorns, who held off the Rebels 24-20 in the season opener. The Longhorns kept their streak going last week by blanking Macksville 46-0. Hodgeman County has 11 interceptions as a team, led by four from freshman Talon Shank. Longhorns’ quarterback Ian Reece has accounted for 17 touchdowns, rushing for nine and throwing for eight. Dighton is paced by quarterback Daniel Cramer and running back/linebacker von Leonrod. Cramer has passed for 705 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for 702 and 13 scores. The defense is led by von Leonrod, who has a team-high 71 tackles. Hodgeman County won last year's matchup with Dighton, 58-30.&nbsp;HAYS (4-2) AT GREAT BEND (6-0) The winner of Friday’s battle in Great Bend will clinch at least a share of the Western Athletic Conference title. Hays has captured the conference title in each of the last four years but will have to knock off the undefeated Panthers to remain on the WAC perch. Both teams are 2-0 in WAC play and played difficult non-conference schedules. Great Bend started with an impressive three-game stretch by taking down McPherson, Olathe South and Buhler. Hays' losses came against the top two ranked teams in 6A – Derby (40-7) and Manhattan (34-30). Manhattan scored in the closing seconds to pull out a thriller at Hays. The Panthers have a balanced offensive attack. Jace Schartz leads the team with 513 yards rushing. Division I recruit Ian Premer has a team-high 427 receiving yards and seven touchdowns while Cooper Ohnmacht and Jacob Hall each have three touchdown grabs. Quarterback Daxton Minton has thrown for 951 yards and 12 touchdowns. For Hays, Holden Lind has a team-high 734 rushing yards and eight touchdowns. Quarterback Carter Graham has thrown for 546 yards and eight touchdowns. Tanner Geist has recorded six sacks for the Indians. Hays has won the last four matchups with Great Bend.LAKIN (4-2) AT COLBY (4-2) The Broncs and Eagles will step out of district play for a battle of 4-2 teams looking to build momentum down the home stretch Colby started the season 4-0 before suffering back-to-back blowout losses against Holcomb (41-7) and Goodland (40-7). They’ll be looking to bounce back against a Lakin squad that is aiming to rebound from a 48-31 loss to Hosington last week. Ross Rider rushed for 119 yards and a touchdown in the loss for the Broncs. On the season, Rider has 672 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground while Colter Oldham has added 537 yards and nine scores. Colby has a potent aerial attack led by quarterback Casen Carroll, who has thrown for 1,320 yards and 11 touchdowns. Colby beat Lakin 20-14 in last year’s matchup. LINCOLN (5-1) AT SYLVAN-LUCAS (5-1) Since dropping a shootout to Ellis in its season opener, Lincoln has put together a five-game winning streak. The Leopards moved to 3-0 in Eight-Player Division I District 4 play after rolling past Lakeside last week, 52-6. Quarterback Jeremiah Miller accounted for four touchdowns (two passing, two rushing) in the win. If Lincoln can get past Sylvan-Lucas, it will set up a battle with Clifton-Clyde for the district championship next week. Sylvan-Lucas rolled in its first five games but struggled last week against Clifton-Clyde, taking a 32-6 loss. Sylvan-Lucas relies on a powerful ground game led by Zayne Maupin (502 rushing yards), Connor Charvat (470) and Cade Brokes (294). Miller has thrown for 1,102 yards and 19 touchdowns and rushed for 557 yards and 11 TDs. Sylvan-Lucas has won its last six matchups with Lincoln, with the Mustangs’ last loss to the Leopards coming in 2015. OBERLIN-DECATUR (4-2) AT RAWLINS COUNTY (5-1)Rawlins County shook off a season-opening 14-point loss to Dighton to reel off five straight blowout wins, including a 50-12 rout of St. Francis last week. With a showdown against top-ranked Hoxie looming next week, the Buffaloes will look to move to 4-0 in Eight-Player Division I District 8 play. They’ll meet an improved Oberlin-Decatur squad that is coming off a 54-0 win over Stockton. Ryan Srmaek has completely rewritten Rawlins County’s record book. He is coming off a 315-yard and five-touchdown performance on the ground last week. For the season, Sramek has 1,232 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. Tru Dewey leads the Buffaloes in tackles with 67. Oberlin-Decatur’s two losses were against top-ranked Hoxie (45-12) and Dighton (44-40). Josiah Pattangall has delivered a big sophomore season for the Red Devils, rushing for 1,061 yards and 14 touchdowns. Oberlin-Decatur will try to knock off Rawlins County for the first time since 2019. SUBLETTE (5-1) AT KINSLEY (5-1) The Larks and Coyotes are both 3-0 in Eight-Player Division I District 6 play. Sublette cruised to a 56-14 win over South Gray last week while Kinsley took a 30-14 victory against Meade. Sublette has outscored opponents 258-44 on the season. The Larks’ lone loss was a 24-18 decision against Bucklin. Kinsley’s only setback was a 20-16 loss against Macksville in Week 2. Freshman Joshua Stuckey (624 yards, 5 TDS ), junior Emilio Rodriguez (310 yards, 9 TDs) and sophomore Woodrow Lancaster (629, 4 TDs) have accounted for all of Kinsley’s yardage on the ground.
