These boys do not miss. Shane Smith & the Saints are at the top of their game right now. Since the release of their latest record, Norther , the Austin, Texas, band has been touring nonstop to promote their new music. Heck, frontman Shane Smith barely took a break after welcoming a baby into the world. He's dialed in and making moves. If you've been to a Shane Smith & the Saints live show, you know their high-energy performances are filled with lots of fiddle, stellar harmonies, and lyrics that could kill. It's an experience that never disappoints. While their shows often include the band running around the stage jamming out, the portion of their set highlights even further the group's unbridled talent when they slow it down. During a show at the Ryman Auditorium, Shane Smith & the Saints threw down a moving cover of
Vince Gill's "Go Rest High On That Mountain." The hit song was released by Vince Gill in 1994, but the famed country artist wrote it years before. Gill began writing the lyrics to the heartfelt single after the death of Keith Whitley but wouldn't finish it until a few years later, after he lost his other brother, Bob, to a heart attack. Ricky Staggs and Patty Loveless sing backing vocals on the studio cut, bringing the moving song even more to life and packing a hefty punch. "Go Rest High On That Mountain" is genuinely one of the most beautifully written songs in country music, and Shane Smith & the Saints did the single justice with their cover. Performing the song at The Mother Church, The Ryman, is a perfect nod to the country music greats that have graced that stage over the years, and Gill is a frequent performer at the original Opry House, making it even more special. Each band member got a moment in the limelight throughout the performance, adding their own flair to the melody. Smith's deep and smooth vocals coat your ears quickly, gaining listeners' attention, and when the harmonies come in, they melt you. Be warned before pushing play: you will listen to this multiple times in a row... which is why it's a good thing they released it to streaming platforms as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f4onNZqYEsg
