Kentucky continues to provide aid to those impacted by Hurricane Helene at the end of September.

The storm brought torrential rain and caused massive flooding and damage throughout much of the southeast, including Georgia, western North Carolina and east Tennessee.

During his Team Kentucky update, Governor Beshear pointed out the efforts of Kentucky agencies helping those in need. He said the Kentucky State Police sent six telecommunicators to Asheville North Carolina.

“Where they worked alongside local first responders and law enforcement to coordinate the dispatch of a helicopter for disaster relief operations and route first responders to citizens in need.”

Governor Beshear said more than 150 Kentucky highway crew members are in or have been in North Carolina helping with the roads.

“They're doing everything from moving trees off roads, to clearing mudslides, to replacing culverts and shoring up local roads which is helping North Carolina's emergency crews help more people and help them faster.”

The governor also said within the past two weeks nearly one hundred state transportation crew members went to North Carolina to help bring heavy equipment to areas in need.
