Golden State Warriors Could Make Massive Mistake

Before the NBA season tips off on October 22, the Golden State Warriors will need to make some roster moves. They currently have 20 players on their roster and need to shave it down to 18 before opening night, including their three two-way players, who can split time between the NBA and the G League.

The Dubs currently have 20 players on their roster, three of whom are two-way guys: Pat Spencer, Reece Beekman, and Quinten Post. Of the two players who need to be cut, the Warriors should do everything in their power to keep Blake Hinson on the roster.

At 24 years old, Hinson is not the usual age for a rookie, which is a big reason why he went undrafted in 2024. He played for the Los Angeles Lakers in the Summer League and averaged 10.9 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in eight games. He shot 32.8 percent from the field.

While those numbers are lackluster, he was elite in college. He was an All-ACC player at Pittsburgh and averaged 18.5 points in his final season. He shot 42.1 percent from behind the arc and was one of the best scorers in the NCAA.

Hinson is a pure scorer. He doesn't have the best handle or passing ability, but his perimeter defense is underrated, and he can guard a variety of positions thanks to his 6-8 frame. He is far from a perfect prospect, but as the Warriors slowly transition to a core of Jonathan Kuminga, Trayce Jackson-Davis, and Brandin Podziemski, having a knockdown shooter in the rotation certainly can't hurt.

Hinson has only played in ten total minutes across two preseason games for the Warriors, so his impact on their system is yet to be seen. However, his offensive upside helps build a solid case that he should not be cut from the roster.
