Station owners are in favor of the plan but are concerned about finding a new site that’s comparable to the current 400-foot tower.“It has to be a comparable height or we lose a tremendous amount of listening area,” ADX Communications owner Dave Hoxeng told WEAR-TV.The company owns sports WEBY (1330), talk WNRP (1620), and country WYCT (98.7), and simulcasts programming from the stations across five FM translators in the market.Metro One Communications owns urban AC WRNE (980), which is simulcast on the Pensacola-licensed FM translator W295AP at 106.9. Company owner Robert Hill agrees with Hoxeng, saying, “Height is everything” regarding lower-powered FM translator signals.A city-owned tower has been named as a possibility, but nothing official has been announced.“Our concern has been that there’s been no commitment from the city, other than to work on it, look at it, hope for it, to commit to getting us on that tower on the right height,” Hoxeng said.If an existing tower is not compatible, a new tower would need to be constructed, which would take a significant amount of time.“The worst case and most expensive case is having to build another 400-foot tower,” Hoxeng explained. “To build a new tower, easily it would take a year because of all the permitting and all the stuff that’s necessary.”According to WEAR-TV, the city plans to tear down the current tower within the next 12 to 18 months.</div></body>
