On this week’s edition of The Daily Beast Podcast, hosts Joanna Coles and Samantha Bee are joined by a brutally funny “Beast of the Week”— John Oliver , the Emmy-winning comedian known for his biting satire and meticulous research as the host of late-night talk show Last Week Tonight . Oliver bonds with Coles over their journeys towards American citizenship and recalls how he and Bee spent much of their time as correspondents on Jon Stewart ’s The Daily Show trying not to get arrested.

Later on, Coles and Bee dive behind the scenes of a Daily Beast exclusive , speaking with journalist Michael Isikoff about his reporting that Donald Trump aide Chris LaCivita has made over $22 million —in just two years— by slicing a lucrative cut from the Trump campaign’s media spending.

It’s not uncommon for political strategists to reap “astronomical” paydays for their work, Isikoff explains, but in LaCivita’s case, campaign finance reporting revealed money “pouring in at some really high, high levels that we haven’t seen before.”

In other things not “seen before,” the hosts discuss a scary encounter with an abandoned sex toy in a must-listen segment. And Bee also shares preparations for her upcoming one-woman show, How to Survive Menopause , which will run for three performances in New York City from Oct. 17 to 19.
