Stephen Curry Made 'Bad' Look Good

    By Lance Roberson,

The Golden State Warriors are among the most successful teams in the new millennium, as they secured four NBA championships. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, and Kevin Durant took the franchise to all-time levels. However, according to three-time All-Star Gilbert Arenas, all of it occurred due to a "bad" contract.

"Dynasties are made off bad contracts...Because he [Curry] signed a bad deal at the beginning, it created a back-end dynasty," Arenas said on Gil's Arena .

Arenas referred to the four-year, $44 million rookie contract extension Curry signed in 2013. Even for 2013, such a number was rather low. However, considering the ankle injuries Curry suffered until that point in his career, he didn't have the leverage to ask for more.

Luckily for the Warriors, Curry earned an All-Star selection, and the franchise won a championship the following season. Arenas validly pointed out that Curry's seemingly robbery of a deal helped birth the Warriors' dynasty.

However, regarding the "bad" contract take, unless he forgot the injuries surrounding Curry and the lack of any accolades, it was a value deal but not a number Curry's agent should be ashamed of netting at such a point in his career.

Without Curry taking such a deal, Durant's monumental sighing wouldn't occur. Furthermore, who's to say the Warriors could also pay his All-Star teammates and the role players on the bench?

However, Golden State didn't allow Curry's loyalty to go without reward. Curry's following contract thanked the two-time MVP for his services and superstar influence on the franchise and the game of basketball overall. Curry signed a five-year, $201 million deal in 2017.

If you ask Warriors fans what they think of Curry's rookie extension, it's unlikely they call it bad. You can't argue with four NBA championships.

This isn't any new news. Kerr found this out many years ago when he dribbled through the entire defense to take a step back three, nailing nothing but net!đŸ’ŻđŸ€ŁâœŠđŸŸ
