Travis Hunter is one of the most electrifying players in college football. And at this point in the 2024 season, he's one of the leading candidates to claim the Heisman Trophy.

Hunter is a generational talent, excelling on both sides of the ball for Deion Sanders' Colorado program. The wide receiver/cornerback stud has reeled in a league-leading 49 catches for 587 yards and six touchdowns on offense, and two interceptions as a lock-down DB on defense.

While Hunter is one of the clear favorites to win this year's Heisman Trophy, there are some who believe his connection to the polarizing Coach Prime might hurt his chances.

Grete Griffin, Robert Griffin III's wife, asked Hunter about this notion during the most recent episode of their podcast.

"People feel like your Heisman chances are being hindered because of Coach Prime being your coach," Griffin said.

"Yeah, I feel like that too and told him that. But I don't want to talk about that because it will probably hinder me some more," Hunter said.

Hunter then went on to make a case for himself as this year's Heisman Trophy winner.

“Nobody did anything that I’ve done and put up the numbers that I have put up on both sides of the ball. I want [voters] to understand that," Hunter said. "... There's a lot of people that don't like us though."

Hunter's main competition for the Heisman is Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty, who currently leads the NCAA with 1,248 rushing yards and 17 rushing touchdowns.

Hunter suffered a shoulder injury during Colorado's loss to Kansas State this past weekend. The two-way superstar is expected to return for the Buffaloes' matchup against Arizona on Saturday.

Saturday's game will kickoff at 4 p.m. EST.
