Their motto is "get outside"Anyone interested in the outdoors is welcome to join the Outdoors Club, the group goes on trips to hike, camp, canoe and even tailgate. Pretty much any outdoor adventure you can think of you can plan to experience it in this club.Kierstin Lee (freshman, pre-dentistry) said, “These are the nicest people in the world”.The Outdoors Club meets every Friday in Kopchick Hall, room 103, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss future events and have fun together. The club is very flexible so do not worry if you get cold feet, these activities are meant to be stress free so you can do as much or as little as you please.The Outdoors Club requires members to pay $20 in dues to cover club expenses such as travel fees for their trips. So, you can either make 2 payments of $10 for each semester, or a $20 payment in the Fall. This fee covers most expenses for things like the club’s meetings and weekend trips, however some trips come with extra fees, though the club aims to keep those costs low. The club goes on a trip most weekends and last weekend's trip was a trip to Elk County, to spot Elk. This was a day trip, but the club also does weekend camping trips like their trip last semester to Erie, PA to see the solar eclipse.For people who do not have a car on campus do not fret, the club may not get buses for road trips, but they do carpool. The fact that the club carpools, not only help with club bonding, but the drivers are reimbursed the gas money they spent.“I love the hikes don’t get me wrong, but I really like the unique events we do once a semester like canoeing, it was a gorgeous day and it’s something I will always remember,” said club President Samantha Ryan (junior, regional planning). “What makes this club so special is the ability to craft unique trips we all remember with great memories”.After the meetings end, everyone is encouraged to go to the bonding activity, which for last week's meeting was a game of Ultimate Frisbee with the Ultimate Frisbee club.The President of the Ultimate Frisbee team reached out to the Outdoors Club in hopes of a collaboration in which the two clubs could have a fun time outside enjoying each other's company over friendly competition. The Outdoors Club does collaborations regularly throughout the semester, in the past they have collaborated with the Sailing Club, the Kickball Club and many more.The club was co-founded by the current President, Samantha Ryan, during the 2022-23 school year and has grown exponentially in its time on campus. The club’s GroupMe was once the largest at IUP.“This close-knit community has faced criticism,” said Andrew Muth (senior, biology), the club’s public relations manager, “people assume that this club was a group of friends that decided to make a club together but that is not the case, the reason I am so close with these people is because of this club, it really does bring together all different kinds of people by proximity”.Last fall, Outdoors Club raised several thousand dollars through fundraising in the Indiana community.
